Training Steering Committee

Airlines that participated in the Training Steering Committee are Air Botswana, Air Malawi, Air Namibia, Air Nigeria, Precision Air and Rwandair. The Chairman of the Committee is Charles Mutua from Precision Air. The Committee agreed on courses, seminars and workshops for 2011 and 2012 and shared ideas through presentations on the latest developments in training and human resource development as well as on strategies to retain people.

During 2011, AFRAA held the following courses and workshops which have benefitted over 430 airline personnel:

a. Nine courses on safety
b. One course on security
c. Three courses on managerial and commercial subjects
d. A regulatory seminar in conjunction with IATA and AFCAC
e. A Simplified Interline Settlement Workshop in conjunction with IATA and two of our partners, Hahn Air and Travelport.
f. An ICT Forum in conjunction with SITA.

Four of the courses were sourced from IATA for free which was very helpful for some of the airlines preparing for IOSA audits whilst their resources were limited. Where AFRAA was charging fees, these were kept at competitive rates whilst generating revenue for AFRAA. AFRAA was able to generate $35,000 revenue exceeding our target of $30,000.
