In order to strengthen AFRAA’s agenda of providing quality services to its members, partners and other stakeholders, the Secretariat has attained ISO 9001:2008 certification towards quality assurance.
International Organization for Standardization ISO 9001:2008 is an international standard which is widely known and internationally accepted model for a quality management system, and the basis of many highly effective quality management systems. The Standard can be applied to any size of company or organisation, any industry and any country, for both services and products. Like IOSA, the Standard itself consists of a set of requirements. These requirements specify what a company must do, but not how.
ISO 9001:2008 certification signifies the credibility of AFRAA and streamlines the procedures of operation aimed at serving its member airlines more effectively. It is an indication of greater management control within the organisation and more clarity about what the Association does and how it achieves its objectives. The certification also brings about improvements in customer satisfaction and increased employee satisfaction and awareness on AFRAA processes. ISO 9001:2008 certification is recognised as a powerful means for guiding best practice in organizations and shall help AFRAA stand out from many other Associations.
The certification audit was conducted in November 2015 which confirmed that the management system conforms to all the requirements of the audit standard. The formal presentation of the certificate will take place following the conclusion of the processing formalities by the Certification Organisation - BUREAU VERITAS. Following the attainment of ISO 9001:2008 Certification, the Secretariat shall embark on the transition to the ISO 9001:2015 version.
The AFRAA team is proud of this remarkable achievement which makes AFRAA the first and only airline Association in the world to attain ISO 9001:2008 certification.
