IATA Vice President - Africa, Mr. Raphael Kuuchi, accompanied by his leadership team from Africa met the AFRAA Secretary General, Dr. Elijah Chingosho and his team on 15 February 2017 at the AFRAA Headquarters to discuss areas of mutual support to African airlines to assure the success of the aviation industry in Africa.
Among others, AFRAA and IATA discussed at length the following areas for cooperation, setting out action plans and activities to be covered in 2017 by both Associations:
1. Lobbying for the reduction of high taxes and charges/opening of monopolies
2. Advocacy for the release of airlines’ blocked funds in some African States
3. Environment: Implementation of the ICAO Carbon Offset and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) which was adopted by the 39th ICAO Assembly
4. Safety & security
5. Capacity building
6. Implementation of the Single African Air Transport Market
