With three scheduled flights weekly, the route provides an opportunity to
deepen relations between Southern and Oriental Africa.
Nairobi, Kenya 1st September 2025: TAAG Angola Airlines today marked
a historic milestone with the arrival of its inaugural direct flight from
Luanda, Angola, to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), Nairobi. The
flight, which touched down at 2 PM, carried the first commercial passengers
and a high-level delegation with government officials, diplomats from both
Angola and Kenya, stakeholders’ representatives, and the airline board
members.
The new Luanda–Nairobi route marks TAAG’s official entry into the Kenyan
market and opens a strategic route between Southern and Eastern Africa.
The connection is expected to boost bilateral trade, promote tourism, and
provide travelers with greater access to regional and global markets.
TAAG will provide direct, nonstop connections with three weekly services,
operating on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, with an approximate
four-hour flight duration.
The route is set to be operated by an Airbus A220-300 aircraft with a
capacity for 137 passengers overall: 12 in business class, 35 in premium
economy class, and 90 in economy class.
Thus, this connection empowers intra-Africa mobility, leveraging regional
integration and greater intercontinental connectivity from both the Luanda
and Nairobi hubs, linking Africa with Asia, the Americas, or Europe.
On arrival, the TAAG aircraft was honored with a traditional water cannon
salute. This ceremonial gesture, a long-standing aviation tradition, marked
the significance of the new connection between the two nations. The
welcome also featured traditional Kenyan performances and solemn
speeches from Angolan and Kenyan officials.
